Meet Kay
Founder, K Catering

01 — The beginning
Shaped by food and love
Asian fusion food has been in Kay’s heart since before she can remember. At five she came from Korea to the United States, where she grew up in commercial kitchens by her mother’s side as her parents built their American dream through teriyaki restaurants, Korean barbecue joints, and upscale Asian eateries. Blending the flavors of her old and new countries came naturally to Kay as she absorbed the delicious tastes and smells as only a child can.

02 — K Catering
Sharing the Joy
Cooking with her mother taught Kay not only how to create unique flavors, but it also taught her that sharing food is sharing love and joy. Kay and her talented team built K Catering to do exactly that — love and joy are always the main ingredients in every dish they serve.

03 — Industry
Trusted in the industry
Carrying on in her parents’ tradition, K Catering has been a trusted name in Pacific Northwest hospitality for over 13 years, catering for clients and events of all sizes and for all occasions. Kay currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Catering and Events (NACE) and maintains active memberships across the region's leading culinary, hospitality, and business organizations including the International Caterers Association, the Wedding Industry Professionals Association, and the International Live Events Association.

04 — family & community
Rooted in family & community
A lifelong Seattleite and proud Western Washington University graduate, Kay finds her foundation is her family and her community. She partners with Union Gospel Mission to serve meals at Hope House, a shelter for homeless mothers and children, and is also a member of the Rotary Club. Kay is married to Dea Sumantri and the proud mother of two daughters, all with an appetite for adventure — travel, hiking, car camping, exploring Asian markets, and hunting down the best chef's special in town.

Cooking for you
Throughout the years, the lessons of her mother’s kitchens have been Kay’s through-line in life: sharing love and joy with clients, community, and family, one uniquely delicious dish at a time. Kay and her team can't wait to cook for you, too!
